"Pain doesn't hurt ... when its all you've ever felt " - Unknown
So I went to Tim's for coffee some with my girlfriends on sunday night, and there was this emo guy sitting in the corner of the shop at a table all alone with his fringed bangs sweeeping over his face covering it. We're pretty sure he was pretend calling someone on his cell phone....but anyways we overheard him on the phone.. and all we could catch was " Sometimes people don't understand that I need to be sad" ... I mean (lol) he makes a good point sometimes we do need to feel sad but it was such a cliche thing to hear him say and so sterotypical... well we found it amusing none the less... Usually if Im having a hormonal day I just tell people that Im feeling Emo, So what exactley is Emo? and how is it defined?
EMOS
Yes, Emo is short for emotional. Emo is one of the hardest things to explain because the are viewed as suicidal, cry babies, sensitive or weak...

Although some people make them selves appear emo it's just the hair and looks emo is more of a state of mind and as the name states its emotional and harder to fake.
"Emo: Like a Goth, only a lot less darker and much more Harry Potter" - Unknown
Emo music is something that is rather ambiguously defined. It can be something that has heavy punk chords and influence such as what we've heard from the Sex Pistols, but it can also be something with soft melodic characteristics like what we've heard from the Cure. This is why emo is such a hard concept to define. It is an expression of emotion in some way. The Cure have been going strong now for over 20 years, writing songs that could make any 16 year old boy break into tears, even the football players. Their catchy guitar riffs and honest, emotional vocals have been mimicked by almost every emo artist to date. Another band from across the pond that has definitely influenced the emo music scene is Depeche Mode. They might be a primarily electronic band, but their moody lyrics and loner style has crept into every facet of the emo scene. Loosely defined, Emo music is music that is highly emotional and very straight forward in the expression of that emotion.
Emo is not only a classification or a type of music it's also taken over the way one expresses themself by dressing. It includes the tighter fiting pants to the dyed-black or dark hair with it covering your face. The longer hair in front with the spikes in the back is also a more Emo- or emotional look to dressing. Most times females and some males using heavy dark eyeliner or other makeup.
So one of my girlfriends asked me "Is it true that in Mexico they kill emo kids?" To that I had no reply so I went to my reliable Mexi sources at dance class and asked what the dealio was with this whole emo death rumour. It was explained to me that emos in Mexico (more in refernece to males) are considered to be homosexual because of the way they dress and act( makeup and being sensitive). I think its important to note that Mexico is a country where the religion is practically 98% Roman Catholic and because Mexicans are sooo hardcore catholic being homosexual is deeply frowed upon therefore leading to emo kids ( males specifically) to be targeted. Even to this day many homosexuals in Mexico are still in the closet because it is soo taboo... Another fator why emo kids are disliked among Mexican society is because of thier "suicidal image" and of course that is also frowned upon in the catholic religion. Dissatisfied with those being the only reasons that Emo Kids were being persecuted and killed I decided to investigate further and found several articles that explained what really triggered or initialized this movement.
"The violent attacks are partly being blamed on an on-air rant by ‘Televisa’ TV personality Kristoff who recently called emo ‘fucking bullshit’. Kristoff subsequently called for an end to the violence but it is thought he make take the fall if the government blames Televisa for the trouble...
On March 7 around 800 young people in the city of Querataro amassed against emos in the city resulting in many violent attacks, and a week later a similar incident occurred in Mexico City. Emos in both cities responded to the attacks by marching peacefully through the center of the cities...
Meanwhile, Chile is also seeing a wave of violence against emo, with TV station Chilevision showing an attack on a group of PokEMOns by skinheads. Emo’s in Chile are known as PokEMOns." - www.nme.com
It makes me wonder are we all a bit Emo? Maybe in order to function day to day we repress the little emo kid living inside of us...
